Advanced mandarin lessons

Course Objectives

Level 7 aims to provide an opportunity for students to use as much Chinese (in both writing and speaking) as possible. Students will learn more complex texts (some in formal language and some in colloquialisms) and new vocabulary and grammar. They will construct Chinese paragraphs and present them in class in the form of an oral presentation or a speech and answer questions from the class in Chinese, creating an interactive learning environment. Students are encouraged to prepare their writing in Chinese characters but preparing in Pinyin is also acceptable. The latter would suit students who want to only focus on improving their speaking.

Level 8 aims to continue to provide opportunities for students to construct their own Chinese writing and present it to class. In this level, students will need to conduct research on their own in addition to use what they learn in class to present a particular topic. Students will develop Chinese research skills and gain knowledge to a wide range of topics (e.g. culture, education, environment etc.).

Level 9 aims to continue to provide opportunities for students to develop their Chinese listening, speaking and research skills. This level will also introduce Chinese debates and discussion forums in class. Students will prepare for the topic on their own and share their arguments and opinions in class with others, developing their critical thinking skills.

Level 10 has a similar structure to Level 9 and continues to train students in advanced listening and speaking. Students will develop conversational skills and creative thinking skills in class through a variety of listening and speaking activities and language games.

Level 7

We need to be honest and modest, which means we must not be too proud to ask others when in doubt and should frankly admit your mistakes when in the wrong.

Level 8

保护环境十分重要。地球是我们唯一的家园，一旦被破坏，我们便无家可归。

It is absolutely important to protect the environment. The earth is our only home, and once it is destroyed, we will be homeless.

Level 9

诺贝尔是一位伟大的发明家和科学家，他设立了诺贝尔奖金来鼓励人们做出科学贡献。

Nobel was a great inventor and scientist who set up the Nobel Prize to encourage science contributions.

Level 10

澳大利亚目前的经济发展有很大一部分要归功于中国。从中国游客到中国留学生，他们都为澳洲的市场经济作出了巨大的贡献。

Australia has to owe a large part of their current economic growth to China. From Chinese tourists to Chinese international students, Chinese people have made a significant contribution to Australia’s economy.

Standard group advanced classes are 1.5hr per lesson and 10 lessons per term.
